Jennifer Kirby impressed me from the moment I first saw her at her booth talking about the products she had displayed proudly in front of her. First it was her smile, a genuine smile, one that oozed appreciation for the people coming across to meet her. Clearly, a people person who thrived on that contact with new and existing customers coming to say hello. When she discussed her products, there was a passion, the most important ingredient of any successful career or venture. But wait! There’s more. Jennifer carefully described the products she had curated for the event, sharing details about each one, as if she was describing the signature dishes on a 4 star Michelin awarded restaurant menu. And that. Ladies and gentlemen, is the secret of Jennifer’s success with her Piggyback Treats Company. The foods she makes for dogs and cats, come from her training as a chef. A career in food, which led to the most innovative business, catering to our favourite little friends. This is a business venture and an entrepreneurial superstar who are making a difference in our world in so many ways. Jennifer, along with her partner Chris Courter, decided to build a business around the astronomical amount of food waste in the United States. It is estimated that 30 to 40 percent of the food supply goes to waste every year: 133 billion pounds in weight or $161 billion. Piggyback Treats Company rescues food waste from local businesses, and small family farms, to develop healthy treats for pets. We also discuss Jennifer’s catering business called Kitchens Lane.
