Special Guest: Laura Cheadle

At 2 Hours: 1 Minute Into Show

 Laura & Phill

Laura Cheadle is a fabulous blues singer who first performed with the Appreciation Choir, which her father created for the Persian Gulf War veterans in the early ’90s. When she was 10 Laura started playing the drums and with her siblings formed a band called – Sibling.  I met Laura Cheadle when I was hosting a music festival at Heritage Winery in New Jersey 2 summers ago. Laura dazzled me. She is infectious and makes the Energizer Bunny look like it is on valium. Laura Cheadle and the Family Band are New Jersians, and Laura has opened for some pretty impressive acts: The Jonas Brothers, John Sebastian, Sister Hazel, Spin Doctors, and the Average White Band. Laura has performed in The Joint in LA and the legendary Viper Room in West Hollywood. And she also wowed the punters at several clubs in London, where she has earned herself a following from people who really appreciate amazing musical talent.

Laura’s dad James Cheadle, who performs in Laura’s Family Band, and also produces Laura’s CDs,  joins us in our conversation and on the 2 songs Laura performs live on the show.

    Alex Bassett’s Philadelphia Restaurant Profile

At 2 Hours: 49 Minutes: 50 Seconds Into Show

Alex Bassett

Bassetts Ice Cream is featured on the menus of some of the finest eating establishments in the country and City Tavern of Philadelphia is no exception. I asked 6-time Emmy Award winning chef-proprietor, Walter Staib, to tell us how he showcases Bassetts Ice Cream alongside City Tavern’s deliciously elegant desserts. Chef Staib took our request seriously, pulled out all the stops, and prepared a delightful assortment of dessert and ice cream pairings, allowing us to savor each and every morsel.

Chef Staib provided taste tests of three classic desserts, delightfully paired with hearty scoops of Bassetts Ice Cream. First up was his famous Apple Cobbler with Walnut Streusel paired with our aromatic cinnamon ice cream. Next, we tried, City Tavern’s classic Raspberry Linzer Tarte paired with our creamy vanilla ice cream, and finally his deliciously decadent Dark Chocolate Mousse Cake offset with another scoop of vanilla. Wow! Your mouth is probably watering by now, right?

Not only did Chef Staib suggest which flavor of Bassetts Ice Cream to serve with his classic desserts, he also selected just the right beverage to make the match complete. For example, the Apple Cobbler and Linzer Tarte were paired with a sparkling glass of rosé champagne and the Chocolate Mousse Cake was matched with a glass of molasses porter. Deeee-lightful!  City Tavern makes it possible for you toexperience authentic 18th century American culinary delights, based on tried and true traditions, not trends. Their cuisine is made fresh daily from scratch with local ingredients and the historic restaurant is located at 138 South 2nd Street at Walnut Street in Philadelphia.  We are proud to be featured on the menu of Philadelphia’s own City Tavern and even prouder of our recognition by esteemed chef-proprietor, Walter Staib.
