Aline Robichaud and Amos Carlen co-directed Shadows Of Freedom the new documentary that recounts the story of the Jewish/French resistance of 1942 in Algiers, which helped change the course of WWII. It has remained largely forgotten. 388 Members of the Resistance, mostly young and inexperienced, were instrumental in a pivotal moment in the War, supporting the Allies in North Africa. The efforts of this small Resistance group paved the way for a successful invasion of Algiers which was led by Britain and the US, and in the process,  saving the lives of over 500,000 Jews in North Africa, targeted by Hitler’s Final Solution. “Operation Torch” became the Allies first successful strike against the Nazis, and a military operation which still remains the longest invasion in the history of Human conflict.  On November 8th, 1942 the Allies organized three amphibious task forces to simultaneously seize the key ports and airports in Morocco and Algeria.
