Once upon a time I worked in a retail wine store in New Jersey. I remember the day a young man asked me about a popular wine called Pouilly Fuisse, trying to impress his attractive girlfriend with a rather expensive bottle of wine, which he could pronounce. I suggested an alternative wine, since - even back in those halcyon days of my youth - I didn't see the point of pulling out wads of Dollar bills when a few would buy a better wine. The young man expressed quite clearly that he could both afford the wine of his choice and didn't need "a Limey" telling him how to spend his money. I believe the saying is: "A fool and his |

money are soon parted".
Saint-Verand hugs Pouilly Fuisse geographically and is part of the richly productive region of Burgundy. The wine produced in this area loses the "D" in it's name and picks up some sensational fruit along the way. The grape responsible for this wine is the Chardonnay. Drouhin's version contains 100% of the grape variety and ferments the juice in oak barrels, bottling in the Spring following the harvest.

wine he would have discovered some strong similarities to the "Pouilly" - golden green color, a floral fragrance and a refreshing, jolly flavor. I wonder whether his money impressed his girlfriend that night, and if she helped him pop his cork!
Cheers! |
