Cline Cellars Syrah 2000

Best of the Red Bunch

Cabernet Sauvignon is to many lazy wine drinkers the be all and end all of red wine. It is the definitive solution to their wine needs. Solace from life's rich pageant. "You want something red in your glass, then it's gotta be a Cab" is not, to my mind, the template for a complete and happy life. Frankly, I'm bored with Cabs. You want me to be honest, so I'm being honest. I want to hoist you from the doldrums of wine, and to rescue your palate from a bleak existence. I urge you to explore new horizons, you are too young for predictability. Live long and prosper! The solution: Syrah!

In 1982 Fred Cline founded Cline Cellars in

Oakley, California. He decided to become a winemaker, a formidable task indeed. Fred was perhaps one of the first on the Left coast to prescribe to what the French call "Terroir", the fusion of climate, of soil and of the personality of the region. In 1991 Fred relocated to the Carneros region of Sonoma County. He became a "Rhone Ranger", one of a small band of winemakers pioneering the planting of varietals which thrive in France's Rhone Valley. Among these grape varieties is the precious and sumptuous, and, dare I say, precocious, Syrah grape. Cline, recognized the vast wealth spread across California's fertile land, and Cline's Syrah capitalizes on this opportunity and harvests

grapes grown in various locations: Lodi, Contra Costa, and Sonoma.

Syrah in California has a different personality to it's cousin in the South of France, and indeed to it's cousin in Australia, which goes by the name of Shiraz. Blended with some Grenache; Carignane & Mourvedre to add to it's stunning complexity, Cline's deep purple wine has a jammy, cherry flavor with a perfume of pepper and spice. And you can wear it with the same accessories as a Cabernet. But with Cline Syrah you're making a real fashion statement.

Cheers!
