Sainte-Maure de Touraine

Goat's milk cheese made in Touraine and neighboring Poitou, France. This log shaped cheese has a light covering of powdered oak charcoal which encourages development of a bluish-gray surface rind. This firm, creamy cheese has a straw within it to hold the cheese together and to help ventilate it's interior. 45%-50% fat content. Piquant flavor and goaty aroma.

Note: Be sure to buy your cheese from the "fresh cheese" counter, and have it cut fresh in the store. Also avoid buying more than you need for a couple of days, since the freshness deteriorates after long term storage in the fridge.

Hardys Nottage Hill Shiraz 1998

October 2000

I've never tasted an Australian wine I didn't like. I'm that uncommon breed of Englishman who can rarely find fault with Australians. Truth be told, I adore Australians, especially the women, whom I find to be attractive, exciting, enormous fun and with impeccable taste.

All of the qualities I enjoy so much in a glass of Australian wine. But then again, the world of wine was originally male dominated, so it's no surprise, the best qualities of a wine are described in the same glowing terms as a man would use to describe a woman. However, since this is the age of equality, I think I can safely say, that Hardy's Nottage Hill Shiraz, is a muscle toned, biceps bulging, hairy chested hulk of a wine - and there are few women who would care to fit that description. This is the kind of wine Bruce Willis' character would drink after he survived 2 hours of pulverising torment in the Die Hard movies. The wine is dynamite; it's exploding with flavour; it's erupting with fruit and it's got plenty of surprises in store before it packs it's final punch.

Hardy's Nottage Hill range was named after Thomas Nottage who managed Hardy's Tintara winery and vineyards at McLaren Vale in South Australia for over 60 years.

Aromas of blackberries, mint and fresh white pepper typify this Shiraz, which is produced from grapes grown throughout Southern Australia. Hardy's Shiraz is made in a style which emphasises the natural fruit flavours, resulting in the delicious taste of blackberry and spice.
