So I've been on this quest for the best wines money can buy - or I should perhaps say, little money can buy. And I've come to the conclusion that Spain, long ignored by the trendy slurpers, offers more bang for the buck than a bucket load of pyrotechnics on July 4th. My revelation sounds more like something from Tolkien's Lord Of The Rings: The Agricole de Borga is a winery located in Borja, in the province of Zaragoza, between the Ebro River and the Moncayo Mountains. No doubt Gandolf the Wizard fights the dark forces on the very vineyards used to grow the grapes for this wine!
Those grapes, by the way, are Garnacha (known elsewhere as Grenache). True to form, I've fallen in love with an unfashionable grape, from an un-hip region at a totally un-snooty price. YES....another supreme triumph. Thankfully, the winemaker held the grapes in stainless steel tanks for several hours to keep the natural beauty of their flavor in tact. The result is a yummy, fruity berry flavored wine. which reminds me of Beaujolais Nouveau. It's red, it's fruity and it's an ideal candidate for whacking into the fridge |
