Italy's contribution to the world is significant. The list is impressive. The Italians have done a nice job with cars, fashion, food, romantic destinations and last but not least - wine! I tend to avoid the operatic accomplishments of that country, since I loathe opera and as one of my fellow countrymen once noted, opera would be so much more enjoyable without the singing.
But I must confess there is often a tendency to turn a simple bottle of wine into an operatic production, resulting in a bold, heavy, intense performance, with the final gulp demanding a grand flourish, a profoundly weighty expression and a solemn exit in search of the meaning of life |

and love and somebody to translate the words on the label of the bottle which was just depleted. But that's the Italians for you. Why deliver a chorus when you can hire a cast of thousands and present an entire opera.
Castello Banfi Rosso di Montalcino 2002 is the wine equivalent of the chorus, capturing the beautiful, melodious harmony of the grape, the region and the winemaker. On the other hand, Brunello de Montalcino is the entire opera, a huge massive stirring production, which needs several years aging before bottling. Both the Brunello and this Rosso are made from clones of the Sangiovese grape in Tuscany in north west Italy. |

Banfi's Rosso di Montalcino is made from 100% select Brunello clones, and is considered Brunello's younger sibling. The wine is aged 12 months in wood (half in French oak barrique and half in Slavonian oak casks) followed by at least 6 months in the bottle before release.
A perfect wine to serve to those friends who perpetually manage to intimidate you with stories of their wining conquests. This one will impress, amaze and leave them speechless (a condition which is sadly, short lived on bores). A bright ruby color and a smooth, silky, soft mellow flavor, the wine sings softy, enchantedly and refreshingly. Far more palatable for my taste than Pavarotti belting |
